A GI was quoted in the paper the other day saying Afghanistan was "like Vietnam without the napalm". It reminded me of when I was in Chu Lai. During the 18 months I was there, I watched an area of jungle? a ways out from our base being strafed by jets. It became commonplace, and I just sort of got used to it.
When I left for "the world" (home), I realized the color of that whole area had changed from this lush green to brown...
